All eyes are on the University of Texas as tensions increase between students who do not support the USA's involvement in the Israeli war against Palestine. The campus protests initially began on Wednesday, April 24th, when hundreds of students walked out of class and on to the South Lawn on campus. "The University of Texas has a long history of peaceful student protests and free speech and expression", the University states.
The peaceful protests quickly turned physical after law enforcement started warning students to dispurse. Although State Trooper's told students to leave, State Troopers also barricaded the exit, which has parents questioning law enforcements intentions. Arrests began shortly after the confusing and almost hypocritical dispursement demands were made, including the arrest of a Fox photographer. As of 9pm on Wednesday night, a reported 57 arrests were made. Students who have been arrested and since released claim they are receiving a 365 day ban from the University.
In the year 2024, the American people are noticing how little of a say they might have in what our elected officials do with our tax dollars. All eyes seem to be on the University of Texas at Austin's protests because of the eerie fact that the value of the dollar, which holds it's current value via the American tax payers. The American tax payers do not want their money being sent by the billion to fund and support wars that they do not agree with.
What does this mean for the American people and their rights? Glimpses of tyranny are seen when students who are paying tens of thousands of dollars to attend the University are arrested, and banned as they express their First Amendment rights.
Following student arrests, Greg Abbott the governor of Texas, posted to X stating "arrests being made right now will continue until the crowd disperses, these protesters belong in jail". Contrarily, in 2019 Texas law makers passed a free speech law that established all common outdoor areas at public universities allowing anyone, not just students to exercise freely there as long as their activities are lawful and non disruptive". Apparently when genocide is the topic of conversation, these same laws can essentially vanish. The University sent out the State Troopers to the protests, told students to disperse, and when students followed orders, they are arrested and banned from attending class for a year. What or who made Governor Abbott change his mind about the students in his state expressing their first amendment rights? More importantly, what does this mean for the American people as a whole? American's are noticing a pattern shown by our government, comply, get arrested, or die! Unfortunately this level of obvious tyranny has the American people asking questions when will they start shooting into the crowds of protests?
The American Public is left in awe, wondering when our rights left us, and if this pattern of tyranny will bleed into the other remaining "rights" we may or may not have.
