In Jacksonville, a significant child sex crimes investigation, dubbed "Operation Valiant Knight," led to the arrest of 27 men, including a former MLB player and a Mayo Clinic respiratory therapist. Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters reported that these individuals, aged 19 to 69, solicited sexual activity from undercover detectives posing as minors online. The operation involved federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and targeted individuals attempting to engage in sex acts with minors at pre-arranged locations, resulting in arrests for serious felonies including human trafficking.
Sheriff Waters emphasized the importance of parental vigilance regarding children's online activities to prevent such crimes. He highlighted the coordinated efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, among others, to safeguard children from online predators. The investigation spanned five days in April, during which 24 arrests were made at meet-up locations, and three were apprehended following additional investigations. The operation underscores the ongoing commitment to protecting minors from exploitation and trafficking.
