Kennedy Jr. was equally complimentary of Trump, telling The New York Times in 1997, "Donald Trump is a very smart guy. He's a great businessman, and he's a lot of fun to be around."

Despite their mutual respect, there were also moments of tension between the two men. In 1997, Trump criticized Kennedy Jr.'s magazine, George, telling The New York Times, "I think it's a good magazine, but I think it could be a lot better. I think it could be more exciting."

Their relationship took a more personal turn in 1999, when Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Bessette, attended a New York Knicks basketball game with Trump. The event was captured in a photograph that would later become famous, showing the trio sitting courtside, with Trump and Kennedy Jr. engaged in conversation.

Tragically, John F. Kennedy Jr. died in a plane crash in July 1999, along with his wife and sister-in-law. The loss of Kennedy Jr. was felt deeply by many, including Trump, who told The New York Post, "He was a great guy, and it's a terrible tragedy."

In the years following Kennedy Jr.'s death, Trump continued to speak highly of him. In a 2016 interview with The Washington Post, Trump said, "I was a friend of John Kennedy Jr.'s. He was a great guy. He was a really great guy."

The relationship between Donald Trump and John F. Kennedy Jr. was a complex one, marked by both admiration and rivalry. Despite their differences, the two men shared a mutual respect that endured until Kennedy Jr.'s untimely death.
